PullCast Blog already explored what you can see during the Festival at the Brompton Design District, but now it’s time to explore what can you do in another top Design District of London: Clerkenwell.
Now in its sixth year, Clerkenwell Design Quarter brings together all the multi-disciplinary components of this historical area, from showrooms, retailers, and pop-ups to restaurants and bars. We leave you with our recommendations:
A group show featuring Ilse Crawford (Studioilse), Farah Ebrahimi (e15), Nani Marquina, Nina Maso (Santa & Cole), Fien Muller (Muller Van Severen). Common Senses strips the process of design back to its primordial roots, considering the functional, cultural and sociological significance of the objects that surround us. Address: Viaduct, 1-10 Summers Street London EC1R 5BD
Moroso’s London showroom unveils an exhibition entitled Mono Mania Mexico with new furniture and textiles by Bethan Laura Wood. Seen for the first time in the UK, the exhibition will highlight the creativity and dynamic character of Moroso to its fullest with a dramatic installation and special events for the London Design Festival 2018. Address: Moroso, 7-15 Rosebery Avenue, London, EC1R 4SP
The kaleidoscope, invented by a British scientist, became familiar to children as a toy in Japan since it was imported during the Edo era. It was developed by incorporating Japanese paper, up to the point that it became a traditional craft. This kinetic spatial installation will comprise a three-dimensional origami kaleidoscope with reflective surfaces; a projector will shine light and colour onto this automated moving structure, surrounding the whole gallery with whimsical geometric patterns. Address: TOTO Concept Gallery, 140-142 St John Street London EC1V 4UA
When designing spaces as architects they often return to one material: Oak. This timber combines durability and warmth and improves with use and age. The exhibition will show their products, ideas, and processes. They will also show insights that they have learned about growing fine oak for the future. Address: Adrem Dreamspace Gallery, 3 Dufferin Street London EC1Y 8NA
Set in the atmospheric House of Detention, this Installation designed and created by WilkinsonEyre captures the architectural detail and form of their work delicately etched into transparent glass blocks. WilkinsonEyre draw inspiration from both art and science. Each project begins by exploring its context and programme without preconceptions. This context goes beyond the obvious physical nature of a site and its environs. The narrative and design of a project are also driven also by its history, function and social and cultural contributions.
