But first, let us talk a little about\u00a0Frank Lloyd Wright. <\/strong>This\u00a0respected American architect designed more than 1,000 structures during his lifetime (532 of which were completed) and was known for championing the Prairie School architecture movement, which was marked by homes with horizontal lines and broad leaves that recall the sweeping prairie landscape.<\/p>\n

He died in 1959, but nearly six decades after Wright\u2019s death his\u00a0architectural legacy lives on\u00a0in a variety of striking homes he designed from Connecticut to\u00a0California.\u00a0One of Wright\u2019s most iconic properties\u2014the geometric, temple-like\u00a0Ennis House, which is located in the Los Feliz neighborhood of\u00a0Los Angeles, California, is now on sale for $23 million.<\/p>\n

Wright designed the impressive manse in 1923, and his son Lloyd Wright built the hilltop home the following year. The\u00a0Mayan-style residence<\/strong>\u00a0is the final and largest of Wright\u2019s four\u00a0Los Angeles\u2013area textile block houses, which feature patterned, perforated concrete blocks painstakingly made by hand. Spread across nearly 6,200 square feet, the house and guesthouse were fashioned from more than 27,000 blocks.<\/p>\n

Although it has been recognized as a\u00a0remarkable architectural landmark<\/strong>, the property suffered from years of poor maintenance as well as damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake. After purchasing the home for $4.5 million in 2011, billionaire Ron Burkle spent a nearly $17 million in a renovation that refreshed and revitalized the historic haunt. The famed structure then served as a filming location for Hollywood hits such as \u201cBlade Runner\u201d.<\/strong> Burkle also allowed the public to access the house for several days each year per the terms of a conservation easement with the Los Angeles Conservancy.<\/p>\n

In both the three-bedroom main house and guest apartment atop the garage, walls of ornate columns and large glass windows frame the Los Angeles skyline.
