Zaha Hadid Architects\u2019 Beijing Airport Project Unveiled<\/strong><\/em><\/span> \u21d2\u00a0 The new airport in Daxing, Beijing\u2019s southern district, is designed to become the biggest commercial aviation hub, with seven runways and an annual estimate of 100 million passengers once completed. This terminal was designed to accommodate about 45 million passengers a year, and plans have already been made to expand it to 75 million passengers until 2025.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n As we can see by the pictures, the building is composed of a six-pier design located around a large area in the center, which, according to\u00a0Zaha Hadid Architects,<\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u201cevolved from principles within traditional Chinese architecture that organises interconnected spaces around a central courtyard\u201d. This design also helps to decrease the distance that passengers need to travel when checking in or changing flights, which would be enormous in such a large airport.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Besides the amazing internal structure of the build, we can also take note of the polished-stone flooring and the white ceilings, whose openings create skylights that allow natural lighting to flood the airport terminal. The firm worked on this project with Buro Happold and the airport specialists ADPI.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Before the construction began, the architects firm revealed 3D designs of what the completed airport would be.
